Can the IRS summon records from third parties?

Yes. They can demand records from banks, vendors, or other businesses, usually after first requesting them from the taxpayer. Practitioners can sometimes use this to their client\’s advantage if they are unable to access certain records from vendors or banks. Requesting assistance from the examiner to summons records can expedite the process of getting the records.
