The Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) is a refundable federal income tax credit that is available to individuals with low- to moderate-income levels. The EITC helps low- and moderate-income individuals who are employed; by providing them with a much-needed financial boost. According to the IRS, in 2019 alone, more than 26 million taxpayers received around $63 billion from the credit, bringing an average of almost $2,500 per family.
Preparers must meet certain requirements, including:
Completing the EITC worksheets
Maintaining documentation on file supporting the taxpayer’s right to the credit
Document in the file any additional inquiry
Have written procedures for all employees for handling the EITC returns
Be able to prove all employees were properly trained to understand how to file a return claiming the EITC
Failure to meet any one of these requirements may result in a fine of $560 per return per year. This special one-hour program with Attorney Eric Green (Tax Rep Network) will review the requirements preparers must follow, what happens when a preparer is targeted by the IRS and what to do (and not do) if you want to avoid being dragged in front of the Office of Professional Responsibility (“OPR”), Criminal Investigation, or both.
Attendees of this course will receive a set of written procedures to download and use in your practice!
Due to the in-depth nature of this workshop, attendance is limited, so all attendee questions can be answered.
