Fraudulent Tax Returns and the Tax Return Identity Verification Process

Not may practitioners have had to deal with fraudulent tax returns being filed on behalf of their clients. However, ID Theft with tax returns is on the rise. The IRS knows this and is working diligently to stay one step ahead of the fraudsters. This program will explain what to do if your client has had a fraudulent tax return filed on their behalf. It will explain how to file your client’s correct return with IRS Form 14039 – ID Theft Affidavit. It will discuss what to do if an erroneous refund has been issued to your client or to the person who filed a fraudulent return. You will also learn what IRS Forms 4883C and 5071C are and how to conduct a tax return Identity Verification for your client. The program includes sample forms so practitioners can learn how to help their clients who have had a fraudulent return filed for them.
