Technically no – the CTRC is a designation provided by Tax Rep Network that indicates you have been trained in IRS Representation.  However, without being an EA, CPA or Attorney you cannot actually do representation before the IRS.

If you are an unenrolled tax preparer it is our advice that you go and get your EA first before embarking on obtaining the CTRC.

The minimum score you must have to pass each section is 70%.

There is no limit on the number of times you can take the exam.

The CTRC increases your visibility and lets prospective clients know you have an expertise in resolving tax issues and representing taxpayers before the IRS.

Most of our CTRC holders report back that they gain not only more representation clients because of the designation, but more tax clients in general because taxpayers feel comfortable hiring them knowing that if an issue does arise the CTRC can handle it.

The CTRC is available on-demand, so you can work on it on your schedule.

You must complete the CTRC within one-year of purchase.

When you complete all 5 parts of the CTRC you can submit the application.  We will let you know by email that you have achieved the designation and send you a physical certificate (similar to a diploma that can be framed) for your office, along with a digital logo you can use on your website, email signature block, letterhead, etc.

No, we are not authorized to provide CE/CPE credits for on-demand training, so the CTRC does not qualify for nay continuing education credits.

No, the CTRC is not a license and it does not replace your being a licensed attorney, a certified public accountant or an enrolled agent.  The CTRC is a designation provided by Tax Rep Network that indicates you have taken the courses to have proficiency in IRS representation.

The CTRC is good for three years, and can be renewed anytime within the last year by either taking a renewal class, or by attending either the New England IRS Representation Conference that year or the Tax Rep Summit that year.

If renewed the CTRC will again be valid for another three years, and we will send you an updated CTRC certificate for the next three years.

As of August of 2023, there are 400 CTRC holders across the United States.

CTRC Terms & Conditions

Once the CTRC program is purchased and access is granted to the videos and materials, the sale is final – there are no refunds.

Twelve-Months to Complete.

The purchaser has twelve months from the date of purchase to complete the CTRC, after which the program will close out. Purchasers who fail to complete the CTRC within the 12 months will have to repurchase the program and begin again after that point if they wish to pursue the CTRC.

CTRC Granted for Three Years.

The CTRC is granted for a three-year period. During the third year Tax Rep Network will attempt to contact the CTRC holder about renewal for another three years.

Usage of the CTRC Logo and Designation Granted for Three Years.

Usage of the CTRC logo and designation for marketing and professional purposes is granted for a three-year period and cessation of usage must cease if the CTRC designation is not renewed. During the third year Tax Rep Network will attempt to contact the CTRC holder about renewal for another three years.

Renewal of the CTRC. The CTRC may be renewed in 1 of three ways:

  • Take a renewal class given by Tax Rep within the 12 month period prior to the CTRC expiring;
  • Attend the New England IRS Representation Conference during the year of renewal; or
  • Attend the Tax Rep Summit during the year of renewal.

CTRC is not a License but a Designation.

Understand that the CTRC is a designation provided by Tax Rep Network that shows the holder has designated proficiency in IRS Representation. Its is not a license recognized by any licensing body, and it does not replace a tax practitioners need to be an Enrolled Agent, Certified Public Accountant or licensed Attorney to practice before the IRS.
