In this week’s episode of the TRN Podcast, Eric chats about a book recommended to him years ago, and how that book can be beneficial—even relatable—to the business world.
The book, Extreme Ownership by Jocko Willink and Leif Babin, both former Navy Seals, discusses lessons of leadership these two men learned while deployed overseas. Additionally, the book shows how the very same lessons of leadership learned overseas apply to the ever-complex world of business.
Eric describes the book as “very interesting” and notes that it’s worth getting and reading. He also mentions that Willink does a TED Talk, which he also recommends. In addition to Extreme Ownership, a bestseller, Willink has authored a number of other bestsellers. He also has a weekly podcast.
Eric goes on to describe the content Willink is known for producing. In particular, the man’s signature message: “Get after it.”
Eric states: “There are days that I come in and I’m like, ‘Ugh. I’m not really into this. I really don’t want to do this.’ I literally walk into my office, and [the coffee cup with the message is] there, right there staring at me: ‘Get after it.’ And it’s a great lesson. And it’s a great reminder. And I do that.”
