Joining this week’s podcast is Nina Olson, a former Taxpayer Advocate for the IRS. Nina is now retired from the IRS and is currently the director of the Center for Taxpayer Rights. It took quite a bit of planning and synchronizing of schedules to get Nina here, so we’re very excited!

To give you a little bit more background on Nina, from March 2001 to March 2019, she served as a National Taxpayer Advocate of the United States, an independent organization within the Internal Revenue Service dedicated to assisting taxpayers to resolve their problems with the IRS and making administrative and legislative recommendations to mitigate these problems systematically. Additionally, she has submitted 39 annual reports to Congress and testified before congressional committees over 60 times.

Nina also founded and directed the Community Tax Law Project, the first independent Low-Income Taxpayer Clinic in the United States—and so much more! You’ll have to listen to the podcast for the full introduction.

Today’s main topic will be Vinatieri versus Commissioner, a case you’ll definitely want to become familiar with if you aren’t already, about an abused mother who fled the marriage and ended up as a low-income taxpayer. Additionally, we’ll discuss refund by-pass and how we handle it.

And those are the only spoilers we’re giving you!

We guarantee an interesting, insightful conversation that you won’t want to miss out on.
