California’s enforcement machine is changing fast—and small mistakes now trigger big consequences. In this three-hour training, we’ll show you exactly how to protect your clients (and your firm) from the 2025 wave of FTB/EDD/CDTFA notices, penalties, and audits.

We’ll open with real-world “CA Horror Stories”—when the FTB, EDD, and CDTFA go rogue—and reverse-engineer what went wrong and how to fix it. Then we’ll decode how California audit triggers are changing in 2025: integrated IRS/FTB data sharing, AI-driven risk scoring, industry red-flag lists, and the patterns (owner compensation, missed franchise tax, aggressive deductions, bookkeeping errors) that now pull returns into review. Finally, we’ll demystify IRS vs. FTB notices—what each one really means, how to respond within the deadline, when to push back, and when to escalate.

You’ll leave with a practical, repeatable defense playbook: documenting reasonable compensation with third-party benchmarks, automating franchise/estimate payments via WebPay, keeping board minutes for compensation and entity changes, tightening books with “audit tags,” and digitizing support so you can close inquiries in days—not months. We’ll cap it off with case studies and an FAQ so you can put the strategy to work immediately.

You’ll learn how to

  • Spot and neutralize the new 2025 audit triggers before they hit.

  • Decode & respond to IRS vs. FTB notices (and avoid turning a notice into an audit).

  • Set and defend reasonable compensation using third-party data.

  • Prevent penalty patterns (franchise tax, estimates, late filings) with simple automations.

  • Build a three-month cleanup and documentation sprint that measurably lowers audit risk.
