How long will a bank hold funds after receiving an IRS levy?

Banks are required to hold levied funds for 21 days before sending them to the IRS. This holding period gives the taxpayer time to:
– Dispute the levy,
– Prove financial hardship, or
– Negotiate a release or payment plan.
If no action is taken, the bank sends the money to the IRS at the end of the 21-day period.
