What is Uncollectible Status?

Also called Currently Not Collectible (CNC), this status means the IRS has determined that the taxpayer cannot afford to pay due to financial hardship. Collection actions are temporarily suspended. The burden to be deemed uncollectible rests with the taxpayer.
