What is an Offer in Compromise (OIC)?

An OIC lets taxpayers settle their tax debt for less than the full amount owed based on either an inability to pay (Doubt-as-to-Collectibility Offers) or by showing they do not actually owe the tax that is assessed (Doubt-as-to-Liability Offers).
